16 Tips On Gaining A Competitive Edge For 202516 Tips On Gaining A Competitive Edge For 2025

We all know that times are tough right now, right?  Of course, and not just in business either!

And we also know that business success is never guaranteed sadly, but – there are certain actions we can take to give us the greatest chance of survival for the future, as we cannot simply rest on our laurels and hope that things will change.

We have to be proactive, focused and smart in how we make our moves each day.

This means putting in place the risk lowering systems, processes and drivers, especially since global shifts regarding the economy and business including trade and manufacturing are deeply affecting many small business owners as we speak in the U.K..

In this post I will share with you ‘exactly’ what you have to do now in order to not just survive this storm, but hopefully thrive and stick around for many more years to come.

First off – let me take you back to being a child for a moment.

So was it fun and a great time for you?  Can you remember what was it like? Was it colorful? Was it simpler?  I do hope so, as mine was just wonderful.

My childhood was filled with many great adventures, as we often went out fishing for trout in nearby rivers, went on walks in the countryside, rode our bikes, climbed trees and went apple scrumping.

We also loved playing army in the woods, hiding behind trees with sticks as guns.

You’re childhood may have looked a bit different to my own in the 1970’s/80’s era in the UK, but I hope you have some fond memories like I do.

Either way, most of us hopefully have some nostalgia that will stick with us for life.

One thing is for sure; as kids we were adventurous, we were always testing our boundaries, and we wanted to see how far we could go.

We would also test each other’s skills and talents to see who was the best at whatever endeavors, so we found ourselves enjoying our competitions during the summer holidays.

16 Tips On Gaining A Competitive Edge For 2025

We all wanted to be the best at what we did back then, didn’t we?

And it’s okay to want to be great as well, it’s only human after all!

Of course kids love praise, and love to feel that they are doing great at something, so as kids we aimed to run faster, do wheelies on our bikes for longer, and perhaps climb higher up the oak tree than our buddies.

It’s heart warming to recall those golden times for me.

Do you remember a time or times where you were praised for doing something you did well?

Did it make you feel amazing for a while?

I was never particularly good in school, but I was good at selling toys, running for a long distances and drawing.  So I aimed to be good at these things as time went on.

The point is we have always known what we can do well, and we have always known some form of competition haven’t we.

Even if we are just competing against ourselves to be better each day, that’s cool too.

We want to win, and that doesn’t mean we are being mean or selfish, it just means that we have that healthy human spirit for wanting to be good, for achievement in something.

This is very different to ruining others lives to get to the top of course!

Now We Are Adults

Well, some of us are! 🙂

But, in a way, this is no different to back then.

In life, in roles and in businesses we have that spirit for wanting to be the best we can be, and we have that hunger for winning at something.

It’s not always to impress our ego, or for self-interest, but it might be to try to make more sales, become more trusted, or to win more business.

Business is often our livelihood also, so we cannot afford to throw money at it without seeing results.  And the SME or small and medium sized business sector in the U.K. accounts for nearly half of all jobs and is a vital part of the U.K. economy, so we must protect that.

We have to become smarter and more aware, we have to become more efficient, and we have to market effectively enough to see how we can develop a solid long term reputation.

This includes having a great USP or unique sales proposition amlngst other things.

What is your USP?

We need to stand out, and be prepared to continually innovate our ideas and refine our offers, as we also place customer care at the top of the pile.

In small business models we have to also aim to master our metrics and know our bottomline.

This means we may then draw in those vital customers that stay with us for life.

But not only that – we need our customers to tell others how great we are.  To share what they experience in positive ways, and to refer others to us.

We want to be familiar with the important business ‘R’s.

  1. Be recommended
  2. Grow retention from returning customers
  3. Attract referrals
  4. Receive great Reviews
  5. Reward customers and teams

This means aiming to deliver the greatest value to our happy customers, and beat competition to become the monopoly.

We are simply trying to win at what we do.

The Struggle Is Real Though

As we all know!

Unless you have been living on the moon, you will know that in our current reality and economy, the small business owner is facing many challenges and struggles, due to the fact that there are so many uncertainties both nationally and globally right now in 2025.

With increasing costs, taxes, trade deals, tariffs and the constant strain on Brits with the cost of living crisis in the UK, it means the small business economy faces many setbacks and stresses.

However, even though this is the case; there are also small business owners that are fortunate enough to be expanding and experiencing growth now, both traditionally and in the digital space.

We want to be one of those small business owners.

I will talk more about how you can become a growth expert soon, but you need to also be aware of the fact that half of all small businesses are now facing increased costs and taxes, which can pile on the pressure to stay afloat, and this can mean there is no option but to apply new monitored strategies, create new shifts in thinking, and to look at products and markets to determine what may be required to stay in the game.

This could mean making vital changes in order to survive.

These are some of the real concerns right now, so let’s look at what’s going on.

16 Tips On Gaining A Competitive Edge For 2025

Business Rates Relief

This is in place to support small businesses, and the primary process to help a small business lower rates bills.
These come in the form of schemes which can lower and even eliminate rates for some small businesses in the U.K. which include, the hospitality area, retail sector and other sectors, and also those businesses dealing with financial challenges.

However, the rates relief is reducing in 2025, meaning less support for certain types of small businesses.

There are various types of relief and one is SBRR, Small Business Rate Relief, which is in place to reduce rateable values.
What does this mean?
You will not be required to pay business rates if your rateable value is lower than £12,000.  However some of you will have higher rates.
CLICK HERE TO SEE WHAT IS RATEABLE VALUE (RV) IS IN MORE DETAIL
Perhaps you run or operate a charity, café or bar, or music venue, and this scheme can potentially help you with relief.
NOTE: There is even the possibility of assistance from the local council that can cancel business rates for those facing hardship.
For charities the relief comes in two forms. It’s either mandatory or discretionary.
Unfortunately, in the retail, leisure and Hospitality sectors, the business Rates Relief scheme that offered 40% relief on small business rates, finishes at the end of March 2026.
This means that it is in operation now until that date of March 2026.
What will this mean for you?  If you are in any of these sectors you will need to check what you may be entitled to and what may be ending for you.

The Future and National Economic Risk

Everyone is feeling the pinch in the U.K. as we all know!

With higher taxes, greater lifestyle costs and a third of all UK small business operations reporting the biggest challenge moving forward to be the uncertainty of the UK economy, it is very concerning.

For many small businesses this could sadly mean the risk of failure.

Although Trump has been advised to reconsider his ridiculous tariff and trade deal percentages, two thirds of all small businesses national and international still face real trade challenges, and that means an impact on turnover.

Local, independent and community based operations in my hometown are feeling the economic pinch, and so always advice that we support them.

I shop locally where possible, and I speak with the owners and lend a hand in any way that I can.   That’s because I care about my city, and so should you.

Many owners are also facing supply chain concerns with over 20% reporting worries about their overseas supply chains, and increased costs of sourcing materials, transportation, and labor costs.
There are many ways it can impact on a U.K. business, and in recent years this was worsened by Brexit, and all that came with it.  Not to mention the dreaded Covid 19 period, and now the current trade issues and tariffs all having a detrimental effect on our economy.

In addition to this – many small business owners face shortages with staff, increased expenses, and of course the unavoidable global economic unrest.

With expected delays from the import of goods, supply chains issues, and on top of that the consistent changes in customer demands, it is tough for many to navigate this time successfully.

Customer demands can shift, so the key is to gather as much feedback as possible from existing customers and from polls, surveys, questionnaires and quizzes, using as many different types of platform as necessary.  For example, with AI now we can ask it any question, so perhaps you could use an AI tool to help your business?

Tax Burdens

We all know that tax can be tough on all of us, (and let’s face it – most of us aren’t billionaires), and with the increase in employer NI Contributions, this of course increases stress – especially on those struggling to manage any kind of work life balance, lower wages and increased cost of living.
This is why it pays us to identify every single outgoing expense and cost, in both our personal lives and business lives.  and keeping personal life costs as separate as possible from business costs.

Streamlining Can Help You

Streamlining is something to look at, which essentially means finding ways in which you can increase the rate by which you work, operate and hire, in order to become more efficient – and see where there may be vital adjustments and improvements made in what you currently do.

How?  CLICK HERE TO SEE SCRIBE’S EXPLANTION OF STREAMLINING

Now for some good news

It is not ‘all’ bad!

Many SME’s are currently seeing exceptional levels of growth, and many business owners whom I have spoken with are feeling positive about their financial future in certain sectors.

Those that have anticipated change, kept their eye on competition, and have been able to dominate their market whilst streamlining are confident that through continued focus and consistent monitoring they will be able to serve their communities for many years to come.

In fact – half of all Small businesses in the U.K. moving into the second half of 2025 are hopeful that they will still increase their workforces.

That’s good to know isn’t it.

This can mean increased buoyancy in the community, which in turn grows the local economy and revenue.

And if locals spend their money locally, and sellers spend their money locally, everyone can win.

Of course – some rely on supply chains, import and export in Europe and globally, and so even the most local of businesses can still be greatly affected by what is going on now.

The key is to always look at what the alternative options are, so if your current supply chain is causing you problems, you must study alternate solutions.  Research other suppliers, and adjust your supply strategies, in order to improve reliability and processes efficiency.

You and or another person should always be awake and aware, and keep an eye on global and European trade news, to consider what measures are required.

Gaining A Competitive Edge 2025

What else can you do?

Maybe you need to also:

1) Adapt more with your customers needs, or

2) Respond more to customers communications, or

3) Look at your products and the market to ensure you stay ahead of shifting current trends?

Perhaps it is as simple as..

4) Offering more ways to pay, keeping in contact with those who have left their e-commerce basket, or following up through emails and other forms of communication such as text messages.

5) It might be about asking better questions to your customers and what their needs are now.

It might be that..

6) You need to obtain the right kinds of funding so you can invest more in your hiring, business products or tech.

7) You need to operate your brand to position yourself in the market in ways that make your presence significantly better than others.

The great news is that..

We Are Vital To The U.K. Economy

The private sector are bolstering the national economy, and there are currently several million small and medium sized businesses in operation nationwide in the U.K.
In fact – the SME operator and owner helps to create over £1.9 trillion to the UK economy every year, and employs a whopping 49% of the entire UK workforce.
That’s half of the entire workforce!  And you are part of this.

So Be A Survivor

If you started a small business and had the passion to see it through in the inevitable hard times, especially in that first year, you are tougher than you may think.
And if you have already survived the first three years of business, you are resilient and quite rare.
This means you are fortunate ‘not’ to be part of the 40% of SME’s that will fail in that time.
Congratulations!  But you must keep that standard, in fact consistently improve standards, and not drop the ball, to increase your growth.
As time passes, the percentage of failures increases as you know, therefore you can never get short sighted or become complacent in what your role requires of you.
So always look around you, keep an eye ahead, aim to be the best, don’t fall into the trap of thinking that you are ever safe.
You can survive if you understand these fundamentals of being in that top percentage of business owners.
Let’s talk now about having that competitive edge.

What Is A Competitive Edge Or Advantage?

It relates to the unique strengths, skills and resources that a small business may own and operate with.   These may be regarding relationships with customers, location, timing, technology, teams and whatever else there is to give you an edge over others.

Through having some or all of these it enables you to become the primary choice for the consumer.

You can achieve an edge by ensuring that you are closest to your products and your customers.

All through delivering the very best, and having the awareness to create increased loyal custom.

How?

  1. Online and offline communication in sales – don’t leave people hanging around
  2. The follow-ups, the care & consistent relationship building – always improving
  3. Delivering quality/ standards consumers have come to expect – don’t cut corners
  4. Being open minded to shifts in demands and the market – watch the trends
  5. Time spent with partners/ teams/ Investors identifying how to outperform others – always ongoing and in all areas of the business

16 Tips On Gaining A Competitive Edge For 2025

Healthy Competition

Compeition is good in that it helps us ‘all’ get better, and move past our self perceived limitations.
Healthy competition means that we are in a great market area.
To outperfom competition we should always push ourselves to continually advance, improve our game, and become better than yesterday.
You only need to think of some of the world’s greatest athletes to see how that works.
This means having integrity, operating with core values, and acting with good morals and ethics.
Whilst competition can be both good and bad, we can always learn from it and take from it.
The beauty of having good competition is that we can study others, and this can drive us forward like nothing else.
Meaning we must stay obsessed with ‘our baby’, and create that burning fire to succeed.
Without that drive we may lose motivation.

Keep An Eye Out

Be warned that our obsession shouldn’t make us blinkered though, nor too focused in one area that we miss another area.  That is shortsighted.
Yes be obsessed, but also ensure that your team are obsessed in all areas to ensure the whole unit is driven to be the best.

16 Tips On Gaining A Competitive Edge For 2025

The Tariff Wars

I’m sure you are aware of the tariff wars around the globe, since Trump started slapping higher tariffs on many countries.

We must all understand the impact of these global shifts, and what these will mean for your business now.

Many UK business manufacturers currently sell to the U.S., but with the latest tariff increases and trade deals it could mean more costs for you and less profits for you.

Some of these increases could lead to ending business trade with the U.S. for some manufacturers.

Even in the U.S. these tariff shifts are causing great confusion and chaos for American manufacturing.  And the creation and selling of products in the U.S. is not easy when there are consistent changes being made.

In the U.K. we operate with a global Tariff the UKGT, which applies to most goods imported to us.  That is unless there are specific trade agreements.
Increased tariffs impacts on the manufacturing sector as it affects costs of importing, and it could mean lost business when exporting.
In the U.K. we have seen some suspended tariffs on certain products to support businesses which is great, and the UKGT is designed to help support our businesses through the reduction of Manufacturing and other costs.
With tariffs on imported goods coming into the UK though this raises the costs of manufacturing, which in turn can impact the competition and positioning of UK manufacturers around the world.
In other words; we can lose business abroad through increased tariffs and trade deals.
When U.K. products are sold overseas and tariffs are placed on those foreign buyers, it could lead to U.K. products being dropped in favor of nationally made equivalents, as the costs of our exports becomes too high.
Then there are supply chain delays, rising costs in general and difficulty in sourcing materials, which leads to potential revenue reductions.
As the U.S. have placed new tariffs on various areas of the U.K. manufacturing sector it can reduce business profits and even lead to loss of business trade and reduced exports to the U.S., so we must think about our options and determine the best coarse of action.
We are also impacted by the tariff changes in Europe, placed on them from elsewhere.
It is highly recommended that you understand how this will impact on your business decisions, and if it affects the rates you may be expected to pay.
Ensure that you always have a strategic plan which can be edited and adjusted to support your future decisions.
16 Tips On Gaining A Competitive Edge For 2025
Get to grips with changes and be mindful to educate your workforce.
Be confident and assertive in what you do, whether that means increased PR or media exposure, more effective marketing, or something else, to create that market share, whilst never lower your standards.
A little combative action on your part is fine, through the right movement and planning, but it should never drive you into unhealthy actions.
Sadly there are CEO’s and teams that will do whatever it takes to make sales, even if that is unethical, so you must know where the limits are, and determine what the edge of right and legal is.
Good practice is fundamental to all good business, and without this we then enable corruption and negligent behaviour.
Bad business will always fail as quickly as it rises!
To be clear on this; it is different from being a maverick, whereby one seeks to think and act differently to most, and has a vision that may be more independent, ballsy, and require courage.
Whilst this can come with increased risk, it is not illegal.
Being a bit more bold than most can drive growth, and enable you to reap significant rewards through challenging the status quo and convention, and you only have to think of some of the disruptors out there that are in the top 1% who get way better results than most.
But not all disruptors are good, as they can be destructive.
Some disruptors can destroy markets, use unethical tactics and create great losses in business and in jobs if they simply don’t care about what their actions create around them.
This can equate to market instability for others.
If you are serious about gaining a competitive advantage and edge, and you wish to push harder, perhaps through innovation and through creating new markets or products that may not have been previously considered, then get out there and do so, as long as it comes from a good foundation.

Be Smarter Than The Rest

Seek to drive teams to be independent thinkers and leaders, and let them develop great ideas, so they can be on their ‘A’ game and strive for excellence.
In other words;  lift others up, and attempt to elevate your brand in order to stand out.
Through using smart media concepts and intelligent marketing, you can have a focus on what’s working and what isn’t working, and this means never using a random scatter gun approach.
Know what works best and increase it!
It may be that your sector enables invention or innovation, and even in-house proprietary technology that can give you that strong edge or advantage over others.
You must use the right tools to reach the right people, to drive consistent standards and improvement.
This can allow us all to make far greater progress than others.
And with a little pressure, it can enable us to think and act differently.

16 Tips On Gaining A Competitive Edge For 2025

Get your staff and teams on board

You already know this though right?

As you cannot do it all alone.

On an individual level, trying to do all of this alone can cause burn out and immense stress, so there is a balance to be had in understanding ourselves in our roles of business, and in how we navigate with our teams to fulfil their roles.
NOTE; Be mindful that when a small business is so focused on beating competition it can cost a great deal more, and this can use up precious resources.  Thus you need to manage your resources effectively.

Where can you cut costs..

But maintain high standards?
In the first few months of 2025, with taxes up and costs increasing to all, including small business owners, trying to manage and monitor ‘all’ costs can be a tough process, but is vitally important.
The key is to always look at where you can put in a cost cutting strategy that can be achieved without high level assets being affected.
Of course – you certainly don’t want to let go of great teams and staff, but if there are those that are being carried, and looked after all of the time, then consider if they are adding to your costs or not.
Sad as it may sound, there are many companies today outsourcing to other countries to save costs, but it is not all good news because this oftens causes customer service issues and increases complaints, so be very careful where you are trying to save or cut costs, because in the long run it may cost you more headaches.

Ethics and Winning

What are your principles and policies?  What is your code of conduct?  What are your values?  How are you responsible?  How do you build trust?

Good business practice is a critical factor for being legal, building consistent success, reducing negligent behaviours and having that winning edge.

We all have the desire to succeed and win, and this keeps us on our toes, but this can lead to behaviors that are underhand, and this can ruin lives and businesses, if we negate or neglect core principles of ethical foundations.
Some go wrong here through desperation, as some may try underhand tactics to beat others.
Be sure to stay ahead through maintaining an ethical stance, professionalism and expertise, and develop through consistent mastery of business skills.
Stay in integrity, and if need be take courses, listen to useful podcasts, listen to others, and know your craft more than anyone else.

Always Take Notes

Write down what you learn from others businesses and from here.  Act upon what you learn.
Whilst it is true that experience and education from being in business for a significant amount of time is an added benefit, because it creates wisdom, it is not critical if you can learn quickly and apply what you learn from by gathering ideas from others.
Become seriously focused, be hungry enough, and nothing can stop you.
IMPORTANT;  Study successful small business models and see what they do, how they do it and why.   You will become aware of certain patterns and processes that you can also draw from.
Watch others when they buy, understand behaviour, consult your team of experts, trust your gut.
Always be ready to try new things where most needed.

A Solid Reputation Matters

As small business owners we have to be aware of the fact that a good ‘if not’ excellent reputation is very important, and if this is pushed to one side in favor of potential quick harmful actions, it can also quickly destroy a business reputation in a matter of minutes.
I’m sure you are aware of some ‘so called’ leaders that will try to protect their own reputation by cheating others, and looking good, which is also not exactly ethical.
In fact – some really bad leaders have caused whole companies to collpase, and others to even take their own lives through protecting self interest and ego over all others.
There are plenty of government types, billionaires and corporation CEO’s that have no care whatsoever for their workers or even for humanity.
So, be a solid leader to all, and help to improve, evolve and raise business standards, and offer greater business value where you can and you will be rewarded for your efforts.
Oh and – it’s okay to be honest about your weaknesses, and to get help with them!
The golden key to unlock exceptional success lies in working with other bright minds.  I am not the brightest person in any room, but I look for those who are the brightest types in specific areas and roles and then I know I am working with the best.

16 Tips On Gaining A Competitive Edge For 2025

Use What You See Around You

The clues are all around us!
You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to observe what others are doing well.
The idea is to become the customer and walk in their shoes.
And it is always healthy to ask questions from the customer point of view.
If you can glean useful ideas from others business strategies and processes, operations and marketing, without being dishonest, corrupt or by cheating others, then do it.
FACT: Many high performing global companies today would simply not exist if it wasn’t for healthy competition – and if it wasn’t from them studying their competition to improve.  Many top global companies will spend millions on beating competition.
But you don’t need millions, you just need to be smart.

What If You Have No Competition?

If you don’t have any competition when starting out then ask why this is.
No competition can mean that you are entering an unknown area or previously undiscovered sector or market, and with this comes it’s own set of risks, as it may have never been explored before.
It might even mean that this area is stagnant and too high a risk to enter into.
If there is zero demand for what you are attempting to offer then it can crash and burn, unless you can somehow market and advertise enough to change minds.
But how much will that cost you?  And is it worth it?
It can be a good thing if there is no competition, as it might mean that you are offering something entirely new, and it may be well received, as most things were once the first of their kind.
This could mean that you have to undertake sufficient promotional and advertising strategies to get enough eyes on you though, maybe more than most, as you are an unknown quantity.

You don’t have to be original though

That’s right, and you may have noticed that some products out there have been copied?
These are already winning products, and this can be in many sectors.
As an example, if you think about Lurpak spreadable butter, it is a very popular brand in the U.K. – so shops such as Aldi, Lidl and Tesco create similar colored packaging as the consumer already has an emotional connection with Lurpak.
Supermarkets strive to offer something a little cheaper, yet supposedly with the same quality and flavor.
This is apparent in many products and services around the world, and if you look at a classic Tesla today, you will see Honda, BYD and other companies copying the design somewhat.
Essentially by copying designs, colors and packaging to mimic the already trusted products, it can capture the interest of those previously loyal consumers.

What is next?

Start with aiming to create excellent value for money, focus on great customer service and great quality and standards.  But stand out!
Show that you are prepared to go above and beyond your competitors actions to better serve your customers.   Always seek to improve that connection, as your customers will associate you with a personal and familiar feeling of trust.
Remember – they want to like you, trust you and recommend you!

Competition can be good

If you use it right.
Let it drive you to become better.
Let it help you manage yourself as a leader and lead your team of experts.
Let it drive greater standards in you and in the marketplace, and let it increase the caliber of business operation and systems to be consistently improved.

16 Tips On Gaining A Competitive Edge For 2025

Vital Questions To Consider NOW! (I will say the word ensure a lot!)

  1. Keeping Customers. If running a business online which may also be offline or an ecommerce store, how are you ensuring you are not losing your visitors. These potential customers need to be drawn in.  For example; if a customer has come close to buying what stopped them?  Or if they have items in a basket then why did they abandon that basket?  Move through the buyers journey to ensure you are not missing a step or process.  Stay in commuincation to encourage them to come back and finish the transaction.  1) Perform this action yourself – become the buyer.  2) Hire an expert or company to help you cover all bases to minimize loss and maximize sales. 3) Use Clearpay, Paypal & other options to ensure the customer has choices & completes a purchase.
  2.  Losing Customers. Why do you lose potential offline customers?  Why are they going elsewhere?  What can you do to attract them back?  Talk to them and create a solution to bring them back.  Look at businesses around you to see what others do to keep customers.  1) Look at foot fall and the numbers of shoppers each day.  2) Do you need a new shop fitting or an interior designer?  3) Monitor the numbers – and look for repeating patterns, try reverse engineering a service or strategy that is from competition, to see how it achieves results. This is a valuable tool for understanding competitors’ approaches, and for improving existing products, and identifying opportunities for innovation where required.  Master ALL these metrics: This means Cash flow, Net profit margin, Sales revenue, Cycle time reduction, Gross margin, Customer satisfaction, Customer retention, customer lifetime value, cost savings, quality improvement, data quality, Accuracy, timeliness, completeness, consistency.
  3. Tools and Tech. Are you using the latest systems and tools you need in todays modern business operation?  If not why not?  Where could you be left behind?   You cannot afford to miss a trick, meaning investing intelligently in the right tools and – letting go of what is an extra cost that is not serving you.  You have to have an edge technologically, as well as in every other area offline.  Without the right systems in place you simply cannot achieve what I mentioned in tips 1 and 2.  What do you need?  Industry specific tools, websites, conferencing tools like Microsoft teams, cyber security, Google analytics, employee tracking software, Automation, marketing mix, online storage, accounting tools.  Always back up your blog/website.  Here is a tip from wordpress backup experts duplicator.com who you can join by clicking here:Protect your backups from ransomware 3-2-1 rule:

Using the right tools, what procedures are in place with social media, advertising, marketing, branding and your website SEO?  What about your strategic content?  How can you ensure that you are being seen enough in your efforts? ‘Who’ is managing this and is this comprehensive?  How do you stand out and stay relevent through knowing what is working/not working in your efforts?  Offline efforts like pop-up stands and stalls, events, conferences and using flyers also required comprehensive testing.

  7. Offline Mastery. In your local community you must remind your customers why you are the best option.  So that they stay – and if they have left get them to come back to you.  What are you doing to ensure they return?  Are you really building the loyalty through connection and in to what you do?  Focus on personal relationships, offering great value and quality.  Great deals are very powerful, and even if you sell high quality products and you charge more for what you sell, you have to ensure you deliver that extra service and memorable experience.  NOTE:  Aim for Return customers, Retention, Referrals, Reward customers/teams, Good Reviews.  Always gather your offline data, and ensure you study your “churn” rates.  The rates by which customers cease being your customer. Looking at specific time periods in your shop or premisises, you can determine what your churn is and why they may be ignoring you or leaving. You need to know what percentage of loss of customers will do to your profit margins.  Create and test new online and offline strategies to get back old customers and acquire new customers.ore to acquire new customers, so always be mindful of ‘how’ to keep
  8. Trade and manufacturing.  I’m sure you are aware that we are currently facing a huge global challenge, with major trade wars, supply chain issues and potential higher costs for all. This may drive a need to cut costs, reduce waste, or even let go of staff members in order to survive.  Look at streamlining, managing your processes and ensuring your workflows are as efficient and effective as they can be through comprehensive strategic planning.  Look at alternate suppliers if needed and negociate better deals where possible.
  9. Productivity. Pinpoint where and how can you optimize your operation more?  Do you use your resources intelligently?  For example What about organic Search Marketing?  Can you maximise exposure of your website in search engine page results?  The blog you are reading has specific keywords, on page SEO, backlinks and more, which is free to create without paying for adverstising.   Thus I improve performance of results, without it costing more.  Perhaps you need more automation and greater customer service?  Where can you improve channels of communication and resource use?  Effective productive effort means the focus and measuring of employee productivity, mastering of key tasks and process improvement whilst optimizing resources.  Study the rate of output per unit of input.  HERE ARE 4 TYPES OF PRODUCTIVITY FOR YOUR ORGANISATIONS SUCCESS BY FELLOW.
  10. 11. Master the art of teamwork. Don’t try and do it all by yourself, you will burn out.  Good leadership means not spreading yourself so thin that you are not performing in any role.  Aim to ensure every role is covered and every person is a leader, managing themselves and communicating effectively with all other roles.  Look after each person, and appreciate them.  Be mindful that every role and member is vital to the overall success and growth of your organization.
  12. Quick powerful morning meetings.  These are powerful and ensure ‘all involved’ are on the same page.  This means being constantly aware of the plan, mastring those KPI’s and strategic objectives.  And adjusting where necessary as you move to consistently improve.  Every morning, read and study the latest business news including what most affects your sector, which may be for example: customer shifts, current trends, supply chains, levy’s, tariffs, trade deals and European business.
  13. Understanding Government spending.  This can create an impact and influence consumer buying behaviors.  For example; If there are higher taxes associated with government spending, this tends to reduce disposable income which in turn lowers consumer spending. Through this process it means the consumer today (which is more sophisticated than ever before), is influenced by certain factors and if not confident with the overall economic climate will simply spend less.  So ensure you understand the consumers mindset.   CLICK HERE TO EXAMINE WHAT GOVERNMENT SPENDING MEANS
