Why Is Article Marketing Important 
to Your Online Business?

Please note:  This article has been updated as changes have been made and marketing has changed and continues to do so.  So I have edited this; but the principles can still be relevant to your marketing strategy.

For a starters – when you write a blog post or article it can market for you for many years, and so this really relates to all content creation. 

 

An example is that, I used to write tons of articles and once I had written them, they would be seen over and over again regardless of what I did.  Nowadays I write blog posts, but the principles are the same.

Everything changes, trends, social sites etc,  so the way people read and watch is always evolving.

 

 

 

When I used to write articles for ezine articles.com there was a great deal of traffic there.  So – I placed my attention there.  But, when things changed I simply took my articles and made them into blog posts, videos, courses and training’s.

 

I would also deliver specific value and add a call to action button at the bottom of an article so I would build a list at the same time. I will go into how this can all help you on automation.

So basically I built my business and brand on FREE content.  It was hard work ill tell ya, but it paid off. 

 

It paid off because it’s A) REAL and written by me and B) Its ORGANIC and Natural.

There’s no underground, black hat bullshit hypey, strange, expensive, uncommon marketing tricks here which we are all sold everyday.

If you cannot write too well though, you can outsource content creation and of course hire a content creator to help you with your message.

The only reason I do it, as it is from the heart and I believe that there is just something a tad bit more special about that because, people can feel if you can connect with them or not.

 

So, I guess the initial lesson here is that people love authenticity, where possible, and today its few and far between.

There is so much CRAP out there trying to make us become seduced by it, but the more we go ONLINE the less trust there is.  It is saturated beyond belief today.  That’s why it’s important to have a voice an for that voice to be heard without shouting at people.

No-one wants AGGRESSIVE marketing facing them; and whilst there are more aggressive tactics, we can all use, we don’t need it always.

What we need is to BE HUMAN and REAL.  People are fed up with the hoards of B.S. ‘so called experts’ who are pushing products and services on them.  I am also.  In fact – I am IMMUNE to it.  I can see from a mile off what the bullshit is.  And behind it is the next great thing.

Come on!  Let’s get real – we need to wake up and learn to play tennis by batting the bullshit away.

Sorry, i can get a bit wound up by it all sometimes, but I am here to say it how it is, so if you don’t like that then I think you had better go and keep searching for what’s out there.  I will say things how they are, and that’s because it is my job as a person who cares about quality.

So, talking of quality – you need to create it.  You need to write something or create something which captures attention but does so, honestly.

It has to be of use to the reader.  If they cannot find the value, they will be gone faster than you can say shitty content.

Now, we can ALL use ‘free’ media to promote ourselves, and, once we know ‘how to write a killer post‘ we can then write 10 or 100!

Also by writing about what we know, we are positioning ourselves as the expert in this field/niche.

This is positioning for you.  We can do so by being the ‘go-to’ person who others need even if they don’t know it yet.

 

What I mean by that is – some people don’t know what they want, so you can bring it to their attention. They may think they want something, but you can offer something different and make them need you.

 

And remember that - this doesn't need to cost you a ton.

 

 

 

Many talk about keeping costs low in business where possible, and it has for sure helped me, as everything I did was FREE for me and most of it still is.  It took me time, patience and determination but I got there and so can you.

 

TIP:  So, we can create a buzz, be a great brand, offer value and build a great following if we write the right way – all whilst keeping the costs pretty low.

 

If you are trying to break into the coaching niche, freelance niche or writing niche or anything else online, then it will really help you to keep costs low whilst aiming high.  More and more now, people crave ‘REAL’ and what they can trust.  As I said, if we are offline we can talk face to face and we can build rapport quite quickly by understanding another person, but online we don’t always have that option.

IMPORTANT!: So if you are trying to build rapport to build lists, sales and future custom don’t try and sell anything in your post or article as it is just so spammy.

Never try to sell random stuff as you will soon be associated with being a sleezy A hole.  You need great products, services, or affiliate offers which directly relate to your audiences and from your expertise.

If you want to directly link to a free gift or your blog then that’s )OK, but outright selling put’s people off including myself!

KEEP IT SMART and be an expert!

 

 

Writing an article is really about you being yourself!

So, you want someone to relate to you and to your concerns of course!

 

This is where we get to express our unique selves.

Use your experience and knowledge and create solutions for others.

You will also want to ensure that the article is keyword rich and write a keyword rich title. So, what is this?

If your article is about branding then you might want to write ‘5 ways to brand yourself to the top’!  Or something like that.

You will attract those who search for branding and see you as the expert.  You also position your brand in doing so.

Use keywords IN EACH PARAGRAPH so that it creates a higher ranking in the search engines.

Google love organic, and they love trusted content.  They also love WordPress blogs, so ensure you set up a professional site.

 

So, you are the expert, you have a great site, you create value driven content which leads others to take an action.  And you even build lists, create sales, get repeat custom, and you may even get referrals, and recommendations.  But it also starts by starting right.

 

 

What will this require from you?

  1. Creating a structure to the content which delivers, flows, educates, and even entertains somehow in order to STRIKE A CHORD.
  2. Something which lasts and stands the test of time and can even be edited (like this article) to market for you for years.
  3. A piece of content which can be used as videos, blog posts, social media posts, podcasts, email list posts, and anything else.
  4. Building a picture of YOU and what you stand for in relation to what they desire.  Positioning whilst delivering.
  5. Developing a relationship and emotional connection through rapport and care.
  6. Measure each and every step of the process to determine ROI and performance 

 

HOT TIP: Go back over the article ‘before’ you get it published. PROOF Read it as if you were the third party. Is it informative?

Is it something you didn’t know? Is it something you did know but it is explained a lot easier?

Think about the reader always. It is more about ‘how you’ translate the words than the actual words in many cases.

If someone is searching for let’s say ‘branding’ related information and your article has appeared lot’s of times in the search results, then it will gradually climb the ladder of google etc if it is viewed enough and this will drive you more optins for your list.

You will want to create organic higher rankings than others so that you are clicked on more often.  You will not always compete with Advertisers with huge budgets but you will gradually creep up and be amongst the best by strategic implementation.

This is when you will start attracting certain targeted types TO YOUR BLOG/WEBSITE and they will take further actions.

 

Use the same key words in the title as in the content body as I mentioned, and these key words will have been researched using Google key word tool or another good quality tool.

You will want to include this in every paragraph you write.

Keep the topic relevant and specific so that it keeps the reader engaged throughout.

 

 

 

 

 

Be THE ANSWER or solution to their problem, SIMPLE!

They will then LIKE YOU and TRUST YOU and then get to KNOW YOU and want to read more of your amazing articles.

 

Once you are seen as an expert certain people are going to want to be around you and learn more.

 

Try to write around 500 to 1000 words of pure value! But also remember that; most people are very busy these days and you don’t want them to zzzzzzzzzzzzz, drift off!   Slap me with a fish, OK that’s better.

 

 

Article Marketing: Just Be Honest!

 

People want to know, like and trust others, so only write about what you know and keep your integrity intact.

Today, most of us are very aware when it comes to listening to someone or disregarding advice, so you will want the right people to read more of your content AND TO LOVE YOU OF COURSE!  So, keep Them Coming Back For More!

Decide upon YOUR PURPOSE in an article:  YOUR MESSAGE and YOUR INTENTION.  This = POWER.

The power to move people for a specific reason and knowing that it’s something THEY NEED by standing out from the rest.

 

 

 

Let’s Recap on a few things!

 

You now have your killer headline and your killer body inside the article. COOL!

Then you will want to add your website/Blog URL to the bottom and include a little about yourself there also. Ensure it’s Keyword Rich and FULL OF VALUE!  Now people are going to associate your name with A/THE SOLUTION.

You will differentiate from the rest and stand out.  You will connect emotionally, educate ad even entertain where needed.

YOU can now dominate that niche in what I have suggested. 

 

NOTE: You will also want to consider getting PR help with your article as media exposure and release dates can greatly impact on your exposure.  There are many ways to use the media both online and offline and you may even be able to share your article on major online sites to reach many more eyes.   Publicity training is possible or you can also hire an expert in this field as I do.  

 

 

Article Marketing: Professional Long term Traffic!

 

Great Content Will Help Your Traffic.  And the quality of your traffic.

It’s very much like with lists.  We are better off with a list of say 100 quality subscribers than 1000 who do not engage. So build a foundation on quality and that will grow and will be a great investment.

Articles are not overnight traffic either – they are trusted and respected forms of long term traffic that will just keep the people coming.

 

So you can build a solid list by offering something downloadable and of value at the end of your posts, so something such as an ebook, report, video training, webinar, program offer etc, and build a robust list whereby you will create a followup series of emails, using something like Mailchimp which is free.  There are many video training’s on how to set up Mailchimp and other email follow up providers, so check them out and learn to master the followup process.

 

The great content will need to continue in standard in your emails.

 

 

So, as I always recommend get help, hire a professional to build your list if you have to. 

 

 

 

Re purposing is the easy part as all you need to do is to copy your post and then re-write slightly differently for other platforms.  Don’t outright duplicate what you have done; as Google may penalize you if they see the same thing in 500 places.   Create a video for 2-3 minutes for YouTube and get in the fundamental points you need to share and at the top of the video description add your link to the free giveaway, offer or site.

Your content can pay you for years, so try to recycle it if need be, get it to work for you; keep your message consistent with your brand and message and ensure you keep your eye on what’s going on around you.  Don’t get left behind as marketing, trends and behavior all changes so often.

 

How often should you write?

 

 

If you can, write a New Blog post or article  every week.  Otherwise, your readers may get bored and go elsewhere.

Don’t keep going over the same old ground though ; be fresh and to the point. Look at different ways or areas that need a solution and be the solution.

You might even talk about an already ‘well known’ subject ‘but’ you can think outside of the box by approaching it in a different way!

 

FINALLY: Spread the word. You now have a new article. Spread it across the social networking arena. You might share it on Facebook pages, twitter, Tumblr, or another site.  Just look up sites which relate to your topic and add your Article to that site. Remember that the key to what you are doing is to create conversions in your content.  Start with a Call To Action – and from there you can create a % of conversions. 

 

 

Make sure you measure your metrics:

 

NOTE:  I use Google Analytics and a tool called SYFE is a great way of measuring my data.  If you have a website or blog you need to know where your traffic is coming from and what it is performing like.  Without knowing the effect our content has we will never know what works and what to increase or decrease in our efforts.   So manage your strategy in all areas or hire someone who can manage it, so you know where your traffic is coming from.  It might be that someone searches for you in Google, or they may do a random search and find you, or they may click on a link in your social media site or anywhere else your blog or website is.  So, get to know what’s going on.  

Think about this:  If you don’t know what is going on with your content and what it is performing life then how will you know who is reading it, when, where, why, and so on?  You need to know what impact you are making or not.  And from there alter or edit your strategy.

When creating your content marketing strategy you have to monitor your results, and focus on creating, publishing, and distributing this in the right ways for a targeted audience online.
