We are ‘all ‘feeling the effects of this terrible devastating virus and many are struggling to cope under the pressure of being laid off work and losing money.   

 

We have lost loved ones, we have lost trillions of dollars and many Small Business owners have lost their livelihoods. 

No-one could have ever predicted such an awful outcome.  In the UK, the government are currently looking to cover 80% of employees wages and they are also currently drafting up loans for the desperate need for Small Business owners to help support them and keep them afloat in this awful time.

PLEASE NOTE:  Not everyone will be helped and those who are may not be getting the kind of relief loan they were expecting.  This is currently being discussed HERE and not all Small Business owners are happy with the way in which the the furloughs and loans offers are being suggested because it may leave many business owners with tremendous debt and only help Banks.  Please read that article if this applies to you personally.

Sadly, not all Small businesses will be saved in this Corona period unfortunately and in other countries such as the USA things may be even worse still as the Government are (from the seem of things) supporting more the major Billion dollar corporations – so the little Italian restaurant in Up State New York with a loyal customer base and years of amazing food may go under in a click of the finger.  Just as many thousands of other businesses across many various sectors also will go under.

I personally do not have all the answers here but I wanted to construct a post to at least offer my support.

TIP:  I local business to me in Bristol in the UK who produces Gin have moved into producing hand Sanitizer to help in this time. A local Organic and health food store has started to create boxes of food and drink to deliver as a package to residents around the City.  People are being inventive, creative and determined in their thinking and I truly admire that.   Another USA Food Business with a great reputation has gone from being a restaurant to offering roadside pick up of foods and drinks like POP up stations.

So these business operators are pivoting in this desperate time.  Could you?  What could you do differently?  How might you offer something different in order to stay afloat?  Can you differentiate from what you normally offer? How about diversifying? Could you develop a totally new product to answer what is going on at this time? Or might you move into a new market?

 

This may help you to manage risk by minimizing potential or imminent harm to your business during this economic catastrophe.

So what do you really need to become a great Small Business Coaching professional?

  1. Aim at becoming a PREMIUM Coach so, charge more and work with less.  Why?  It is important that if you are serious and you wish to be an expert that you only work with the right people who are prepared to invest in themselves and you. And surely it makes greater sense to ONLY work wit those you enjoy working with.  But this starts with you committing to excellence.  I read for 30 minutes a day.  Every day.  I know my niche inside out.  And the funny thing is that YOU will be discovered the more you learn. It just works that way.
  2.  If possible speak to many business owners and get to know what they do and why. We need to know WHY people do what they do so we can best understand their reasons behind their passions.  This way we gain experience and education. I personally ran many offline businesses and several online businesses in various sectors.  Some failed some succeeded but the education was invaluable and this is highly sought after.  When you have been there and done it people relate.
  3. Speak to me anytime about discovering your passions and ideas first of all as you may not be cut out for this or for business.  You see, we need to know what we are getting into and reality of what it looks like. We also have to know how to change our mindset from an employed person to an entrepreneur. Many people think it will be easy working from home and meeting clients. It is as tough as any other business to run if you run it properly. So, let me know anytime if you want to chat about what it really takes before you take the plunge.
  4. Only after you have spent some really looking at the pro’s can cons of this can you be sure that you wish to embark on a new role. Then its time to look at what this will look like for you. What would you wish to earn, charge, what tools do you need now? Start creating a list which will act as a new Plan alongside you vision, mission and message.  Hire an expert to help you if need be with planning each and every area.   To learn more about planning for both business, marketing and your strategic objective get in touch anytime and I will be glad to run through it with you.
  5. WHO would you love to work with?  its then time to start research and development around your core market. Use surveys, questionnaires, polls etc and get onto Linked in, Youtube and any other platform where you can set up a profile. Linked in brings me a great deal of clients so my suggestion would be to optimize your linked account to be very specific. Ensure it speaks directly to your exact audience.  Get to know the deep demographics, types, behaviors and traits of your potential clients.    Remember – they will be paying you premium prices to get results, so who are they, where are they and how can you get their attention.   Using powerful emails, books, videos, talks, webinars and testing which convert the best for you you can then scale up your efforts.
  6. I recommend hiring a VA.  I personally love to COACH. and WRITE!  I have written 25 books on Mindset and Business and it is my passion, so I don’t want to be doing everything.  And if you try it will burn you out. We cannot be great at everything after all.  So stick to your strengths and outsource or hire the rest.
  7. Be a leader in your field.  Understand that you may be hire to help leaders, founders, owners and teams to perform at their very best, so you need to lead.  This means studying modern leadership which is changing.  Today more people value compassion, listening, openness and straight supportive talking so become the best you can and you will get hired, get referred and earn more by reputation.
  8. Don’t think that one size fits all either. Businesses come in all shapes and sizes so be sure to be personal to each by crafting bespoke packages where needed in order to answer specific questions.  Business owners can have all kinds of problems so be prepared to plan around that and help them to create solutions as quickly as possible. For example businesses can be Micro or Small and within this alone comes a great variety of sizes, staff, Business models, tech, branding, online and offline issues and much more.
  9. Help them know their numbers so they can see costs, margins, bottom line and all other numbers. Help them to hire the best accountants for their business and the best investors who know that type of business.  Also help them to know about pivoting, diversification, differentiation and having a UVP or unique value proposition.  This will come with the plan where you will also cover KPI’s, executives summaries, projected revenue and more.
  10. In todays time it is not unusual to change the Business plan or model in order to survive.  So help them be open to change.
  11. Manage your business effectively. What you do every day will determine your own success or failure. I personally plan the night before, and I work on specific tasks daily. I take breaks but I also ensure that all communications channels are open so I can see what’s going on.  I use Acuity scheduler for clients to book in calls with me, I also use, Leadpages, Email autoresponders, software for my accounts, Zoom, video cameras, spreadsheets and much more to operate effectively.  Some of these have free accounts and with Zoom you can have video conferences, record webinars and create Coaching sessions from a link provided in Zoom.
  12. Understand the power of technology. You can use Zoom, to create webinars have meetings and record training, so use what you can in order for you to work in your more productive, effective and efficient ways.  Ask me anything around this and I will be glad to support you.
  13. Become the best listener YOU KNOW. I have taken courses, studied speakers, language, read books and simply learned to listen to my partner more actively without judgement.  It becomes truly rewarding listening to others more also and see how that works for others. they will simply love it.  And others need to feel important of course, so make them and they will hire you.   I cannot stress this enough. Master it.
  14. HIRE tech experts. I hired a Coach who did all my tech stuff he did my webinars and you can see it all HERE and you will also find a free webinar here also.  What help do you need most?  
  15. Learn to learn. Make it a habit. We have all kinds of habits, some good some bad, but we can learn to master more of the great ones. What skills do you need to sharpen?  Do you need to take a Coaching course? Learn to self manage.
  16. Get into the circles of others who have been there and done it and ask them questions.  Look to JV with them to help your brand to become more exposed.  Use, media, trends, and anything which can further help to expose your message.
  17. BELIEVE you are the greatest because if you don’t no-one else will.  Seriously, get to believe in YOU and your vision and never stop believing.  Back this up with drive and determination and when others cannot see it you know you are becoming the greatest person you know.
