2 Black Cats A Carriage and A Bottle Of Czech Beer – What’s Your Story?

The other day I decided to treat myself.  I ordered a delicious chicken curry and bought some beers to go with it.

I have to say, the Mrs was out so I made the most of my time alone.  It was a a thoroughly pleasant chilled night with some great TV thrown into the mix.   I have to say that – food was amazing and the beer was crisp, light and tasty.  And as it was Czech beer I was kind of already sold on it.  So, as i looked at the bottle I noticed a little story surrounding the beer about 2 black cats dragging a carriage through the little Czech town back in the 13 hundreds.  It was a sweet little tale which drew me in and added to my enjoyment of the beer.

As I finished my 3rd bottle I thought to myself – Huh, this is just the same in all selling.

Whatever we are trying to sell we have to have A) a great value and product B) A great memorable story and C) great design and delivery

This is exactly what I got here.   In fact, I knew what I was getting and it was also pretty cheap to boot, so they really seduced me with their finery.

Whether you like selling or not, we are all being sold to and if you want to create a great business for yourself it has to turn a profit and grow,  so, I think it pays to look at what others are doing and why we are buying into things.  Sometimes we trust in age old brands (I know I do) and sometimes we like the idea of new and exciting brands that improve and or innovate and move with the times.  Look at the iPOD.  Or any other I products for an example.

So – in this short yet hopefully effective blog post I want to emphasise how critically important understanding this whole concept is.

Your story will either sell or fail.

And it is your job to get across your unique message, vision and ethics whilst delivering an awesome thing.

What you really have to do is understand the connection between YOUR IDEA and YOUR MARKET.  If you want to start a new market then it could be way riskier but, you could always find a growing small market – the point is that you have to marry up the two.

Here are some tips to end the post with that may help you gain some clarity with this whole subject

  1. Ensure that you know your message and that it resonates with your core market – in fact start by knowing them and working back
  2. Study others in various markets and see how they sell to you – what is their unique angle and why do you trust them
  3.   It’s time to take some notes now – get a pen and some paper and start looking at your story and why people will buy into it look at pain, struggle, emotions, and so on.

The key to all things worthy is getting started and making progress every day.  I cannot stress enough how important daily focus is in your own business or starting an enterprise.  And remember that, your buyers, customers, clients need to know, like and trust you.  And this is exactly how they will begin to.  Obviously there are more ways to do this but alongside other tools and resources your story has to captivate your audience.

This doesn’t have to be complicated either.  That’s why I kept this short, simple and sweet just like when I’m sippin on my beer!  Now get out there and make it happen!
