So, you may want to run an online business thinking that it is super EASY and IDEAL, as you can work from home and drink coffee all day just working 3 hours.
Sounds great huh!
Well, the truth is that, just like all other businesses it takes alot of work, determination, passion, focus and the ability to do many OF THE RIGHT things every day. Certainly for me as a solo person who also outsources a great deal – it takes total commitment, so – whether its just you ‘or’ you and a remote team you need to know what kind of mindset is required of you.
The great news though is that you can learn to master this, outsourcing and hiring others ‘as I do’ to help you in your weaker areas. Which is highly recommended. And you can still drink Coffee if you wish! 🙂
But, even if you are passionate about a more traditional or bricks and mortar business model, or you perhaps want to own a pretty little funky flower shop, a bakery, a tattoo studio, or a pet sitting business, you still need to understand WHY an online presence is so vital these days so, when I talk of ‘working online’ I mean that – most of us need some kind of online presence – and, we also need a solid plan and strategy, whether it’s a simple website, a blog, social media and online exposure ‘or’ perhaps even a membership site, the need for good online planning is always there.
So, of course Business planning is critical and so is knowing your message, vision, ethics, mission, timing and brand. Also – knowing your projected revenue across 3, 6 and 12 months and 3 and 5 years is very powerful.
So – in our current day and age ‘now’ we simply have to have a Technology element as a part of the system and overall structure. Things need to work right and we need to be able to rely on Tech.
As I mentioned, I work from home, but I also have everything set up for me and a majority of my business is automated. I also meet clients around my City in Bristol in the UK but I can earn even when I am at at home because of tech. So, I choose when and where I work, but this came at a huge price in training, learning, mastery, focus, using the right tools and resources and refining the business model as I went along. Getting that business model right meant hiring professionals in various tech industries so that I could focus on Coaching and writing.
Working Online offers many various opportunities
And you can add an online element to what you already do well.
It may be that you want to add a online shop to match your offline shop, but either way I am sure you can see the power of having an online presence today IT’S VITAL. And in this current time – being online has distinct advantages over other businesses and that’s because ‘whatever goes on physically in the outside world’ we are still able to function at greatly optimum levels.
For me personally, I work online most of the time as my business is in the ‘Coaching, and digital marketing’ niche so, in other words all my products are virtual. Alongside myself.
As a Small Business consultant and coach I own books, this blog, several courses and I also have created a premium Coaching program and this works for me as I can manage this, change it, and even add to my products or ditch what doesn’t work.
I love to help Micro and small business owners build an online presence and build those all important relationships with the buyer or customer. And no matter if you have a traditional bricks and mortar shop or an online business, all of us can benefit from this.

What I do most of all is write blogs, books and posts whilst helping my clients every day is my absolute joy and passion and I love to create and deliver value and quality plans and information for my readers and buyers so – this is how I survive doing most of the work myself but for you it maybe something different?
Do you have a website?
Do you write a blog?
Do you own an eCommerce store?
Do you sell on eBay, ETSY, fiverr, Amazon or any other platform?
Do you host a Podcast or create webinars or videos?
Then you will know the power of working online. BUT, the successful business owners know that its not just about online presence.
It’s about speaking with people, building relationships, creating trust, having great customer service, awesome branding, strategic marketing and branding, list building, video creation, content creation, SEO, backlinking, and Organic and paid traffic. So, there is a great deal to learn in order to master this area. You can hire experts to build sites etc and I recommend WordPress (which this blog is) because, it is a trusted platform on Google, it is solid, robust, and experts can edit it easily and effectively. It has many many amazing features and benefits and I am not even affiliate with them, so I am not trying to persuade you at all, but they work for me.
Working online or not it’s still essential to have some presence today.
Working online for me is by far one of the most exciting ways to accumulate revenue and automated wealth and, most of it is automated because there are so many options these days to share and express our skills and talents through the online space and to place these skills into platforms, courses, videos, training etc. But many do fail. And the reason WHY SO MANY FAIL is that they try so many things and don’t give one thing 100%.
So we must understand that working online is a REAL business.
And so is Work from home in a home based business
Just like any other business.
NUMBER 1 cause of failure in ALL BUSINESS is starting wrong and quitting.
That’s it! Can you believe it? People get excited by their passion, but fail to start a great plan and to work on that plan.
Then they get challenges, setbacks, obstacles and QUIT! Whereas I know that these will be here, BUT with the right approach, and ability to adapt we can overcome ANYTHING.
So is it all worth it? It is what allows my partner and I to travel the world as often as we like because we can simply take a device or laptop wherever we go. But, again – It takes a certain kind of person to be able to run an online business though, and one of the biggest issues is that too many people DO NOT treat it as a business.
Working online is just like any other business model, It takes the right advertising, market share, knowing and loving the customer, timing, and teamwork.
When you start by giving BIG value you break down the barriers of trust and begin building the rapport and ultimately grow a successful enterprise and brand and you can start by building a loyal and trusted list of fans. Many of the biggest companies in the world started by building a fan base and followers. Once you have loyal followers then you can start to offer your products/services. And whilst they may not buy right away they learn to love you and they may invest time and time again.
What happens from there?
LOYAL CUSTOMERS – They Know Like and Trust You and They Stay With You Over Time
REPEAT CUSTOMERS – They come back as they have built an emotional connection you
RETENTION – They will stick with you if you keep caring
REFERRALS – They will tell their friends/family etc
People want AN EXPERIENCE. They are buying an experience.
For example – do you like Ferrari’s? Imagine that you would love a nice cherry red one OK: Now, You want to look at it, drive it and feel it. You want to smell the leather, feel the steering wheel, feel the speed, and smell the engine.
You don’t just want to stand there looking at it do you! NO you want the full experience. Customers want to feel good around what they buy.
You know when you order a Jacket online and you can’t wait to get it? The days count down and it comes through. You unwrap it and you feel good in that jacket right? Sure, and the company delivered it quickly, with care and attention and followed up with emails thanking you.
So, no matter what your business does, is or wants to be IT HAS TO PERFORM THAT FUNCTION.

WEBSITE or BLOG, HOSTING, and that’s about it. Well, that’s about it IF you can use your laptop as a consultant, coach, trainer, or expert in something. So, you are the brand. YOU are the professional, expert, ‘go-to’ person in your niche or sector. So you will effectively be selling yourself. But of course, there are many other ways to work online.
The point I am making here is that – This is one powerful way to start a micro business WITH VERY LITTLE!
So, you could ask yourself:
- What are my core strengths and am I using them to their advantage?
- What experiences, education, past, talents, skills might I be good at expressing?
- What have I done in the past to help others such as family or friends in difficult situations?
- Where are other complaining where I could be the ultimate solution?
- How might I be an ASSET where I can create VALUE to another or to a market?

Working online making changes
The beauty of online work is that it can thrive regardless of what’s going on around us. And sometimes we need to make the shift, change what we do, pivot or tweak our business model to be relevant.
We need to know where the right people are – and where we could be most valuable. And we need to know how to diversify and make changes where needed. We need to be able to translate that value into a market need. I believe that we live in a world where there are endless opportunities for most and therefore ‘I am someone who takes them when ever I get the chance’. Yes, things are changing ALWAYS so a part of being successful is about having an ability to be flexible, Pivot and move with the changes in a business model. Working online is great in that it is very flexible and allows me to tweak and change what I like when I like which is a great benefit of this.
The main reason I created a small business around me and designed my life is so that I could master my own life and have the time freedom. Whilst that sounds dream like or hypey it’s true. BUT that doesn’t mean that I don’t work as much or more than someone who is employed in a job. Be under no illusion that BUSINESS is BUSINESS. We cannot simply work for 3 hours a day especially at the beginning of development. It may come to some and with automation this is a powerful way to do so, but for many it just means working online more than not. I personally have created automation in what I do so I have a blend of both.

Working Online And What some call Freedom!
So what do you choose? For me today, I am a coach, Blogger, Author, Podcaster, Ccourse creator and marketer and my advice to you is to find your passions and translate them into the perfect business model for you. Whatever you are trying to accomplish you have to have a strong desire to succeed and a strong focus on your products and relationships with your buyers.
For me it is simple. The desire to have my own time is more valuable to me than working for others. And If you have enough passion yourself to design your life then you can do so with the right work applied.

Ensuring you have the right tools and resources online also. A good laptop, CRM tools, Website, blog, sales pages, email responders, hosting, domain names, zoom and any other tools which need to be fully operational and adequate.
Hiring a good bookkeeper or having a partner who can undertake this.
Personal mastery over self and tasks needed to take effective daily action. This is vital – as missing your own responsibility in the process is a recipe for disaster. We need to work on our ability to focus, act, outsource, make decisions, lead, manage challenges and so on.
